Five equines live and work on Lily Brook Farm - a horse, pony, donkey, mini horse and a mule.
There are also 35 sheep, two goats, two dogs and some chickens.
Mostly I work with the horses in the therapy sessions but there have been times clients have chosen to work with the goats or even the sheep, especially if it’s lambing season and newborn lambs are leaping around the barn.
Frankie our blue-eyed pony is solid and flashy. Frankie can be very pesky and unruly. But once he connects to you he will draw you in. Clients call him “Planet Frankie” because he will draw you into his world of calm wonder.
Jenny is a donkey. Donkeys are ten times smarter than horses. Just watching Jenny and how she interacts is always a great lesson in getting along in the world and how with just the right amount of energy in the right direction we can move mountains.
KC the little mini was given to me a few years ago by a wonderful women who raised him and kept him as a loving pet. Mini is very small, but hangs with Frankie and Casey as if he is one of the gang, which is wonderful, because he is. He bosses the other horses and holds his own out there in the field. KC is popular with clients who may be fearful of a bigger horse.
Milagro is Jenny’s son, and he is a mule. We call him GoGo. GoGo’s father was a Paint pony, he was born here on Lily Brook Farm 8 years ago and is inseparable from Jenny. Although he will leave her side to do the work he was born to do. GoGo the Painted therapy mule.
Casey, a Buckskin Paint horse was given to me four years ago because her owner went off to college. It has taken a few years for her to warm up to me, she was a little fearful, with a few trust issues. Casey understands relationship; she is a very good partner in therapy.
